What Can I Do For YOU?

Welcome! As a writer and editor since 1974–hard to believe, but it’s been forty-nine years since I wrote and sold my first porn novel (you can read about that here)–I am always looking for new and interesting projects, in erotica and other fields. I can write for a website or magazine or film, or I can help someone create a blog to publicize their business or service. I am available to share my knowledge and imagination on a professional, freelance basis.

Writing porn keeps a smile on a man’s face!

This blog itself gives current examples of my writing and picture editing. Browse through the posts and you’ll see the range of things I write about, from personal reminiscences, to Times Square history, to literary and film criticism.

My most recent magazine article was a tribute to the late porn actress, director, and Golden Age erotica legend Candida Royalle in the January 2016 issue of Penthouse Forum, available here.

The article is "The Really Groovy Life of Candida Royalle," the title coming from something an old school friend of hers said.

One of my biggest recent clients was DDF Network, for which I wrote much of the copy from 2010-2015. This is the umbrella site of one of the top European erotica studios, DDF Productions, which features the explicit and sensual photography and videography of master French lensman Denys Defrancesco and his crews. I wrote for their sites 1By-Day, DDFBusty, Hot Legs And Feet, Only Blowjob, Hands On Hardcore, Euro Teen Erotica, Euro Girls On Girls, and the exceptionally bizarre House of Taboo. My copy and headlines were also often utilized on their Twitter feed @DDFNetwork and on promotional pages on the web. With the use of Search Engine Optimization and keywords in my writing, I helped maximize the audience they reach online.

Katarina is one of the many beautiful models I extol in my prose for DDF Productions.

Here is copy I wrote for them about Katerina in July 2015. Click on the sample to enlarge it:

In addition to copy like this, from 2010-2014 I wrote three weekly newsletters for three of DDF’s top sites, 1By-Day, DDFBusty, and HotLegsAndFeet, utilizing my website copy.

In 2013 I also did a Twitter feed for HotLegsAndFeet which you can find here with over a thousand examples of my use of that social media tool for promotion. I am currrently very active on Twitter for myself  @irvoneil and also for my client @DommeAddiction, a site devoted to the female domination fetish.

My other writing clients include the renowned British femdom illustrator Sardax, who illustrated a number of my stories when they appeared in the classic fetish magazine Leg Show, and to whose site The Femdom Art of Sardax I contributed the story “The Pit,” writing the story around his illustration, below. Read more about that here.

I love to write stories to beautiful art that captures my imagination!

My femdom fiction is also found at BestLegShow, where my stories such as “Leggy Masterpiece,” “Stare and Ache,” and “The Sex Slave of City Hall” bring even more entertainment value to the site which features gorgeous imagery by the brilliant and dynamic lenswoman Jana Krenova. Read more about her site and my stories for her here.

Additionally, I write erotic fiction under both the male and female points-of-view for various adult magazines, in the “sexual confession” mode. I can’t mention those magazine titles or I would be breaking the anonymity of my pseudonyms, as the stories are supposed to be written by regular folks who simply want to share their lustful adventures with the world. But you can read an example of my fiction elsewhere right on this blog, a femdom tale; look for the page “Department Store Domina.” You can also read an example of my “femdom noir” fiction, entitled “Slap Me, Lovely!” here.

In recent years I have also written under “Irv O. Neil” for such magazines as Best of Club, 400 XXX Teens, Leg Action, and Busty Beauties.

From late 2011 to early 2014 I also wrote a weekly column “Notes of a Rebel Subbie” for the female domination website Domme Dose. I explored and commented on the femdom scene, with a focus as well on the financial domination fetish.

I always did a playful or sometimes silly selfie to help illustrate the column.

Sadly, the popular site closed in early 2014 with the sudden death of its webmaster WR. But much in the spirit of those columns was a guest post I wrote for the site of the Welsh dominatrix Miss Annabel Fatale.

I express my admiration for her dominant skills as I analyze Miss Annabel's alluring appeal.

I also recently published a piece of erotic fiction at the site Filthy, a tale about a young female pinup photographer who takes pictures of herself in her storage unit, and the guy she meets there one lonely afternoon.

Another excellent overview of my journey through erotica is found at the terrific site Silent Porn Star.

There is no university that gives such a degree (as far as I know), but I would describe myself informally as a self-appointed “doctor of pornology.” 😉 In fact my nickname among some people in the porn business is “Doc.” Pornology is a term popularized by my New York colleague, the Italian porn journalist and man-about-town Michele Capozzi. Basically I understand the word “pornology” to mean both the practice and study of porn, and that’s pretty much what I do. I write stories and copy for websites, and on this blog I write about the workings of porn as an art and trade.

Below are a few of the magazine titles I’ve edited over the years. In general, I selected and/or commissioned all the photographs. I directed many pictorials and cover shoots. When assembling the magazines, I sequenced the layouts, chose the cover images and wrote the headlines. I both commissioned articles, stories, and “girl copy” for the pictorials from other writers, as well as wrote much of the interior copy myself.

This was the first title I edited, starting in late 1981.

I edited Stag in the late 80s. This cover is an example of how I always believe the customer should be able to stroke off to the front as well as the interior of the magazine!

This was one of the first “MILF” or “yummy mummy” magazines. I was at the helm from 1988 to 2008.

This was my first “dream project” as a dedicated admirer of the derriere. I edited it from 1988 to 2005.

This magazine, which I edited from 2004 to 2009, was my masterpiece, the summation of my pornological skills. Back numbers now sell online for as much as $95 per issue.

I have been a freelancer since 1989. In that time, I have edited magazines while also writing for other editors. I did hundreds of interviews with porn stars, exotic dancers, dominatrixes, adult film directors, and other erotica pros such as strippers’ roadies and booking agents, for magazines such as these:

I wrote monthly porn star interviews and a video review column. I interviewed the young Jenna Jameson for Fox before she became a star.

For Black Tail, I usually did four or five interviews a month with porn stars and exotic dancers. I also interviewed the top black male XXX stars.

For Leg Show, I interviewed B-movie queens, dominatrixes, porn stars, and other various kinky people. I also wrote femdom fiction which was illustrated by top artists such as Sardax.

I did interviews with porn stars and nude models for this pioneering publication which featured mature women BEFORE they were dubbed “cougars.”

For Oriental Dolls, I regularly interviewed the top porn actresses and models of Asian descent.

Additionally, over the years I have had approximately a thousand erotic short stories published in magazines ranging from Swank to Leg Show to Club to High Society, and many more. Today I publish my own line of ebooks on Kindle, with new stories and selections from my archives.

I’ve been doing these ebooks since 2011. Initially, I sketched the covers myself to deliberately evoke the underground “smut fiction” pamphlets once sold in adult bookstores or via the post, as you can see in Spell of Dominance below; but since September 2015 I’ve been using my image-editing skills to select, purchase, and design covers utilizing pictures from 123RF.com, a stock agency featuring the work of many talented photographers.

You can find all my ebooks at the Kindle store here. Here is a recent article about my femdom erotica at the site Die For Her. And here, here, here, and here are recent reader reviews of my ebooks.

I have written 25 X-rated films which were produced and distributed worldwide, including acclaimed features such as these:

This was the first movie I wrote, an original screenplay directed by the late legendary Henri Pachard.

This was made from one of my most personal screenplays, inspired by Japanese movies about prostitution such as Mizoguchi’s Street of Shame.

This won Best Film in 1998 from the X-Rated Critics Organization. A totally different storyline from the preceding Masseuse  2.

This was a kinky psychological suspense porn film inspired by the many hours I have spent in the company of strippers and lapdancers.

The screenplays I wrote are very much of a piece with my erotic fiction, mixing eroticism with character and a real story. I am a fan of classic films of all kinds, and that inspires my film work. I don’t think of myself as writing dialogue for “porn stars” but for actors and actresses who will do their utmost IF you give them an interesting story to bring to life.

I wrote this R-rated cable erotic thriller which was shown on the Playboy Channel:

This screenplay was rare in the erotic thriller genre for its focus on a MALE protagonist, a children’s book writer caught in a dark, noirish world because of his obsession with stealing other men’s women.

Whether people love or dislike the films I have written, the reviews show that they leave no viewer indifferent. Here are links to a selection of reviews on the Web:

For Adultery: “Unusually fine script…witty and intelligent dialog”

For Masseuse 2: “Well-written drama…worthy of one of the mainstream studios”

For Masseuse 3: “Complex story…screenplay top-notch…plot turns worthy of mainstream Hollywood”

For Sweetie Baby: “A good movie…twisted storyline…tainted and interesting ride”

And here is a witty and entertaining review of the X-rated version I wrote of The Phantom of the Opera, entitled Phantom X. “I was impressed that some effort had apparently been put into the dialogue,” the writer wryly says. “I’m on the road to caring about the characters in an adult film!” Phantom X was not a parody (at least, not intended so!) but my own look at the classic story, as I am a lover of vintage horror films since childhood.

I really got into writing, and reciting as I wrote, the flowery pungent dialogue for the Phantom. I am a ham actor at heart!

For the last few years under my other pen name “Neil Wexler” (under which I wrote my screenplays as well as some of my interviews), I researched and wrote a column entitled The Horny Time Traveler for the adult magazine Gallery, published by Magna Publishing Group.

I’ve written for Gallery for over 20 years as it moved from its first publisher to a new publisher.

By examining the history of a particular year through a men’s magazine from that date, I give the reader a feeling for the world at that time, and also of the women (and models) in that era. I also have a WordPress blog to promote the column online, which you can find here. The blog has a different angle: irreverently examining sexy women through history as the Horny Time Traveler “journeys back” to meet them. If only I really could! 🙂

If you click on the images, you can read about The Horny Time Traveler’s journey to 1925:

Also for Magna Publishing, I wrote Stuff, a column for one of their flagship titles, Swank. I reviewed or previewed books, videos, erotic products, and media events.

I have written for Swank since 1976. Under its inventive editor, Jeremy McSandal, I was able to publish in the November 2007 issue…

…one of my most personal pieces: When Women Were the Special Effects, about two actresses from the 1960s, and the devotion they inspired in a painter (Marcus Boas) and a writer (yours truly).

Click on the images and you can read the entire article and enjoy the pictures of these two icons of European cinema, Chelo Alonso and Mylene Demongeot:

**************

And my 2009 article on Bettie Page, published under my Neil Wexler byline, has been a popular feature at the SEXIS website. You can find it quickly by Googling “Bettie Page: Posed For Our Sins.”

BettiePageArticle OnSexis

I joke about it sometimes, because it sounds a mite pretentious, but the fact is I can really be described as a “man of erotic letters.” Also, I’ve even posed as a model in pictorials for magazines such as Leg Show, Tight, and Juggs. I have appeared in several porn movies such as Our Naked Eyes, Raw Talent 3, and Masseuse 3 in non-sex “character” roles: respectively, as anti-porno minister, a pro-porno gangster, and a lapdance fan (although in Masseuse 3 I did get to fake an orgasm on-screen). But perhaps my favorite appearance was as a mad doctor with a foot fetish in a 1998 Leg Action pictorial:

These photos were created by the great Warren Tang, and the star was the lovely Maya Moore, one of my personal favorite models. Photos © Warren Tang.

Other little kids wanted to grow up to be doctors or lawyers; I wanted to be Boris Karloff! 😉

And in fact in the 1970s I wrote a series of porn stories about a mad scientist named Dr. Hyman Goff. Have to reprint those one day in an ebook; “classics” (ahem) like “How Pussy Tricks Stopped the Oil Cartel–A Dr. Hyman Goff Sleaze Thriller!!”

So as you can see, I’ve taken on many challenges in this fascinating field of adult entertainment, working in magazines, films, photography, and on the Internet. As I alluded to at the top of this page, I even wrote full-length porn novels when I first started out in 1974–doing my apprenticeship by cranking 40 pages of hardcore sex prose a day–and learning professional discipline and a few concepts of storytelling and characterization along the way. I also did backstage magazine photography of strippers at New York’s late and legendary Triple Treat Theater/Show World Center during the 90s. So I’m always on the lookout for more challenges!

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Irv I am totally blown away by your portfolio! You have really lived some life man and damn some of those magazines bring back great memories. Swank was one of my favorites and spent many a night keeping me warm and toasty in bed. lol They always had some Bd/SM erotica.

Thanks, WR! Yeah, these older issues are like time machines now, they whisk us right back into the past. And Swank has always been one of the top mags, and some of the best editors I worked for helmed that book.

Rock on, Maestro, phenomenal stuff!! But how about adding one of those great Partner covers from the 70s?

    • irvoneil

      May 4, 2012 at 7:52 pm

Glad you liked it, Herman! Actually, though, I never felt quite as connected to Partner as I did to Game, which was more personal. I liked the Game covers better, too, which were more in the pinup-style mode I favored.

We did good stuff with Partner, myself and my contributors, good stories and pictorials certainly–and I wrote a lot of interesting stories for it myself when I was staff writer under Susan Netter’s editorship, things like “The Neighbors Are Coming” and “Sex Junkie”; but the title was so associated with my editorial predecessors Peter Wolff & Dian Hanson that it never felt quite like it was mine.

Game, however, was just the way I wanted it to be: a quirky, sexy men’s magazine in the classic mode. I took the reins after the departure of editor “Doc Silver,” the great lady who hired me as staff writer in 1981 and who basically taught me how to put together a publication in an orderly but creative way. Until the day I stopped editing magazines in 2009 I still put little Post-Its on each and every set of photographs, listing the name of the particular model and the page numbers, so there wouldn’t be any mixups with the art directors. That’s something Doc used to do, which I adopted. Funny, the details you remember!

    Hi Irv.

Would you care to collaborate on an informal basis? By which I mean: I would create cover illustrations for your works, or any other art you may need, in exchange for your help in constructing my own stories. My dilemma in doing so for myself is that – while I can come up with situations, dialogue, and scenes all day – I’ve no great talent for story arc, character development, secondary/tertiary story arcs, et al. That being said, I’m great at coming up with powerful cover images, and that’s where I may be able to help you take some of your work to the next level.

I think this could be quite equitable, but no hard feelings if you should decline. Really – no pressure at all. Thanks!

    Best regards,
    7X

I found your blog site linked to a reply you left on an article on male stripping – you seemed to have questions regarding the intentions of the female audience. I’ve watched men at a club, of my own volition, and here is a guest article I authored in a male stripper’s blog. It gives one perspective on the appeal.

      February 12, 2014 at 5:16 pm

      Hi Fugee,

Nice to hear from you and thanks for the compliments. Sorry to say, as far as I know, Black Tail magazine is no longer being published–the company that owned it went out of business awhile ago. I have not had contact with the publisher Dynamite in several years, and sadly, the editor of Black Tail (Pat) passed away in 2012 (but she had not been editing the magazine for some time before that).

You may have me confused with the photographer who did your layouts–I did the interviews for Black Tail at the studio, not the photos. I used to edit magazines myself for another company, as I say on this blog, but have not done that for several years. The magazines I edited are no longer published. Lots of adult magazines these days have a hard time competing with all the porn on the Internet, and many have gone under. As for myself, I am currently only writing for websites and magazines now. That’s why I put up this portfolio on my blog–to help myself get more work!

If you want to get back into modeling, I would recommend going on Twitter, if you haven’t already. There are photographers and sites who tweet regularly who sometimes seem to be looking for models. You could contact them, send them some pictures and see what they offer for modeling. The magazine business has declined a lot; many titles have disappeared. But there are websites that do photos and short video clips which seem to offer opportunities.

I hope this was helpful!–Best, Irv

Hi Igor–well, beyond my obvious desire for you to read some of my own stories, I’d recommend VENUS IN FURS, the 19th century classic by the Austrian writer Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, especially as translated and illustrated by the great British femdom artist Sardax (available in hardcover, as well as an ebook on Amazon); DOMINATRIX BOSS by Asher Lake, available on Amazon, a very good recent short American novel about a man whose submissive dreams come true with a female friend, a story that captures a range of honest emotions and exciting scenarios; and stories and novels by the British author Molly Sands, available on Amazon–her stuff is very intense, and sometimes borders (at least to me) on the frightening in how strongly the female characters dominate their men.
