Sardax brings visual life to one of my beautifully cruel heroines!

It was a long week of writing. I just got back a couple of hours ago from dinner with a friend down in Union Square. What an unbelievably bustling place it is, especially at night. The lights from the stores, the sounds of traffic, the rush of walkers and cars, the constant interweaving through masses of people on the asphalt. As I walked my friend over to catch his bus afterward, my eyes were constantly enraptured by the many beautiful young women, especially Asians. It is strange and terrible to have them so visible to me, so palpable in their charms, and yet to be myself so invisible to them. But such is the fate of the ordinary looking middle-aged man.

This feeling of unworthiness and yearning before the eroticism of the vibrant young Asian female is one of the emotional currents running through my femdom story Learning to be Cruel, which I published just about one year ago in Kindle ebook format on Amazon, and which continues to steadily sell.

Although I am not an artist, I designed this cover myself and it captures the spirit of my dominant heroine. As I have said many times on this blog before, I have chosen to do the covers this way because I want the ebooks to evoke the homemade quality of the underground fetish booklets that used to be a staple in some of the adult bookstores around Times Square, and which have become prized collector’s items. Ideally, I should make printed copies of my stories for those who’d like to read them in traditional form, and I may do that at some point in the future.

Recently I started corresponding with the great British femdom artist Sardax, who illustrated a few of my short stories back in the Leg Show magazine days of editor Dian Hanson in the 1990s and early 2000s. I wrote a story for him entitled The Pit,  which was inspired by a picture he did, and which was published on his site The Femdom Art of Sardax. I sent him a copy of Learning to be Cruel just for his interest, and he liked it and decided to make an illustration of it for the site.

He recently joined Twitter at @sardax and has posted two stages of the illustration as he develops it, and which he has allowed me to share here.

I like how the picture is developing, how the tilt of the head in the second step emphasizes not only her dominance but also allows the light to better bring out her Asian features. Ah, a femme fatale is emerging!

Although this scene does not illustrate an actual occurrence in my story (although it does take place in a restaurant and there is much humiliation of the man with food and drink by the woman), I said to Sardax that this could have happened–and she could have poured her drink on her leg–if the restaurant in the story were bigger and the tables weren’t at such close quarters! In any case, it captures the feeling of the story.

It’s fun to see an artist take the story into another possible direction in his interpretation. I’ll post more of these steps in the illustration of Learning to be Cruel as Sardax posts them on Twitter.

And, if you’re curious to read the tale yourself, visit my Amazon page here. You’ll can also find information about my other Kindle ebooks here.

LATE BREAKING NEWS!

I feel like I’m in an old Warner Brothers newspaper movie here. Just as I finished this post, I saw that Sardax posted the final version of the illustration on Twitter. So let’s stop the digital presses and show it here:

The man now looks more like the character Lester in my story, younger and less bulky, and his expression accurately reflects the mix of desire and ambivalence in Lester’s feelings for the powerful, manipulative young woman named Meirong–which means “beautiful face” in Chinese.

As for Meirong in the illo, I’m ready to get down on my knees for her myself…in a restaurant, Union Square, or wherever she chooses! 🙂 Her shadowy full thighs in particular beckon my ardent worship…

Alas, I am afraid she would find me a very disrespectful slave. Perhaps she would have to slap me?

I also like that there is now a very subtle smile on the edge of her mouth in this final version, which reflects her delicious mockery of Lester in the story.

Anyway, before I go off into my reveries, let me remind you that you can view the full-size illustration and read an extract of my story inside the members’ area at The Femdom Art of Sardax!

LATEST DEVELOPMENT–SATURDAY AFTERNOON 6/30/12!

Like any dedicated artist, Sardax often tweaks his work in an ever-evolving state of beauty, and has added a couple of more refinements to the illustration. It’s up now with my story excerpts at his site, so I hope you’ll check it out and enjoy the contrasts in various versions. Let us know how you like it by leaving your comments here or via his site.

Va-va-voom Debra Paget! This wench pleases me…

I was so distracted this morning as I tried to do my daily writing! Last night at my artist friend Marcus Boas’s house (if you want to read about him, check out this link and scroll down to my article “When Women Were the Special Effects”), a bunch of us were watching the 1954 historical action movie Princess of the Nile, on a recording made by a friend from an old broadcast on AMC. The dancer Debra Paget was so sexy in this movie I couldn’t stop thinking about her all morning…

The movie was kind of a wildly inaccurate historical mash-up (for example, they re-used Corinthian columns from a Roman movie called Demetrius and the Gladiators in the set design of an Egyptian palace), but it was a fun melodrama with a light touch, and Debra seemed to be dancing through a lot of what we saw (we’ve only got through the first third so far–you know, we want to savor it).

What was cool about Debra was that unlike the ass-kicking females of today’s action fantasy cinema, she wasn’t doing it to prove a point about “female empowerment” like they do today, thereby making modern action flicks into not so subtlely emasculating political statements. (Because today’s action “heroines” invariably beat the daylights out of men.)  Instead, in 1954, Debra was just showing off her beauty and athleticism and dancing skills, embodying popular pulp fiction fantasies about lusty wenches, wily princesses, and fearless warrior girls, and having a great time while giving the audience a great time.

You can check out the action scenes right on You Tube here. Listen closely for Michael Rennie’s great line right after she finishes dancing: “This wench pleases me!” That’s what I call dialogue!! I love that over-heated, over-the-top stuff, it’s so much fun. Every time I even think of that line, I crack up.

“This wench pleases me!” Best intoned with a British accent! 🙂

Debra Paget retired from the screen in the 1960s, is in her late 70s now, and is involved in Christian evangelism. In my opinion, her movie appearances were definitely early manifestations of her ability to connect with the Divine. And to connect us with it, too. Because I see the evidence of the Divine in such things as dancing girls, indeed I do–as the strippers I’ve known over the years would testify, if I could locate them all to ask! 😉

——–

If you want to learn more about Debra Paget’s career, check out a great site called Luis’ Debra Paget Page here. That’s where I got the shot of Debra dancing. You can find the movie poster here. I don’t work for them; I just saw that they sell the poster.

A “soundtrack” for Sardax…

I feel the work of an erotica writer (or call it smut or porn too, if you wish–I’m fine with them all) can sometimes be analogous to that of a film composer.

Often the writer creates a story completely out of his imagination and it is illustrated by an artist-rendered picture or a photograph. In that case, the illustration brings a visual dimension that the story can only suggest. But on other occasions, the writer is called upon to provide amplification for photographs, in the “girl copy” that accompanies pictures. The words bring a literary dimension that the pictures can only suggest, just as good film music brings extra dimensions to cinematic images. Soundtracks for movies use music and audio effects, and “literary soundtracks” for images use words to evoke emotions and fantasies.

Here are two examples of “girl copy” I wrote for a pictorial commissioned by me when I was editing Leg World. I called the model “Sandra Scarlett”–as far as I knew, she hadn’t picked a nom de porn, so I gave her one. The photos were shot by noted erotic photographer Jana Krenova.

Scenario is a reverse strip: Sandra primps for a date with “Stud Male” while naked “Slave Male” watches obediently in the bathroom.

“Slave Male” is represented by camera’s point-of-view, and “girl copy” expands scenario beyond bathroom.

The pictures of Sandra were taken for the October 2008 issue of Leg World, and Jana also shot Sandra for the cover (which you can see in my archives here.) Ms. Krenova did many terrific pictorials for me at Leg World and for Dian Hanson when she edited Leg Show. You can see more of Jana’s work on her own site, BestLegShow.com.

Sandra now also appears as “Sandra Sanchez” on HotLegsAndFeet.com and other sites for which I write newsletters and web copy at DDFNetwork.com.

I am a very big fan of classic film music, by composers such as Bernard Herrmann, Miklos Rosza, Alfred Newman, Jerome Moross, Franz Waxman, Erich Korngold, and Elmer Bernstein. I often listen to their music when I work, as well as to ragtime, house music, Big Band, and classical piano and symphonies.

Check out one of my favorite pieces of film music here, the opening credits from David and Bathsheba, setting the scene for a tale of exotic and dangerous Biblical romance. See this excellent movie if you have the opportunity.

Now this is what I call a movie poster!! And the music lives up to it.

Now, I recently had the pleasant experience of writing a story to accompany a picture by the noted British fetish artist Sardax on his site The Femdom Art of Sardax here. I used various details in the picture to imagine a story around it which was entitled “The Pit.”

Dreaming up a story for this picture was right up my alley!

A woman counting money…a barefoot woman reading…the color of a domineering woman’s blouse…my story took off from these things to imagine a sensual, psychological, and emotional experience for the man in the center of picture, in awe over the feet of the woman sitting above him.

One thing I like about Sardax’s work is that his mastery of expression and detail gives his work a narrative quality that is very appealing to a writer’s mind.

There are more than a few pictures on his site that have written accompaniments, these “literary soundtracks” which accentuate and bring extra psychological and emotional components to the images. Most of his pictures don’t have words, but the ones that do have some excellent and evocative prose.

It’s amazing how just a few lines or paragraphs underneath some of his pictures really expand on the already powerful fantasies he depicts through his skills with drawing and color alone. One of my favorites is “Lucky Man”:

In the copy that accompanies the picture, the young wife expresses her dissatisfaction with her older husband, and lays out a “contract” with five items which pretty much encase him in a cocoon of total slavery to her. She emphasizes:

“I am in charge. Your role in this relationship from now on is to obey me, and work to make my life easy and pleasant. Is that understood? Do you accept these rules?”

He is more than happy to acquiesce and feels lucky to do so, as the brief but potent story elaborates the “contract” point for point.

Sardax recently completed a series of gorgeous pictures illustrating the early femdom novel Venus in Furs, and they are some of his most dramatic and striking images. They are now on his site.

I hope to write more for Sardax, and of course will let you know here if and when I do.

Getting back to the idea of an erotica writer providing a “soundtrack,” one of my happiest accomplishments when I wrote porn screenplays from the 1980s through the early 2000s was to suggest the use of an actual musical soundtrack, of Rossini’s overture for The Thieving Magpie as the score for an X-rated movie I scripted in 1988, The Bitches of Westwood. The director, Ron Sullivan aka “Henri Pachard,” liked my idea and we had ourselves a very jaunty soundtrack which perfectly accompanied this porn take-off of the Jack Nicholson/Michelle Pfeiffer movie The Witches of Eastwick.

In this parody, the late John Leslie played the devilish role Jack Nicholson did in the original.

I think the writer Anthony Burgess, most famous for A Clockwork Orange, said that if he weren’t a writer, he would have liked to be a film composer. I feel the same way sometimes (although being a film director is even more appealing and was my original career “goal”). Anyway, give a listen to The Thieving Magpie overture here on You Tube and imagine it as accompaniment for a hardcore sex comedy!

(Well, holy shit. As I went to You Tube to find the music, I discovered that Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, the 1970 movie, used it too. That was a film I hated for its violence when I saw it and never watched again, but I wonder if after that the first time of hearing The Thieving Magpie it perhaps nestled in my subconscious for years after…until it seemed to me the perfect accompaniment for my own take on, shall we say, rambunctious devilish behavior?)

In any case, music has always influenced my work, whether overtly or subconsciously. When I worked for GCR Publications in the 1980s, I used to sit in my office and sometimes listen to Big Band music as I assembled issues of Cheeks, Girls Over 40, Stag, or For Adults Only. One of the associate editors said he always thought that the Benny Goodman number “Goodbye” (composed by Gordon Jenkins) well expressed my personality. Either that’s true, or I played it so many times in my office that it became indistinguishable from who I was. But my personality did partake then, and still partakes, of some of the melancholy embodied in the tune, which can be found here in a recording on You Tube.

This is a still of Benny Goodman from the 1943 movie “Stage Door Canteen” which I found on Wikipedia.

And this is me around the time I was always listening to “Goodbye,” playing dress-up at home in the “film noir” mode:

Pic was taken in 1985 or 1986 in my book-crammed apartment on West 46th Street in Manhattan’s Times Square. Moved out in 1990 to try a less “film noir” lifestyle in Astoria, Queens; didn’t like it, though.

Maybe I’m being a little harsh on myself. I shouldn’t call it “film noir dress-up” because I had a lot of vintage clothes (still have some of them, in fact) and donned them often, not as “costumes” but as my regular wear. In many ways, “noir” is the way I look at the world…as a place where people, even with free will, are too often puppets in the hands of destiny…where men are subject to the wiles of femmes fatale (truly)…and sometimes I call myself a “film noir” kinda guy. Anyway, this picture was taken in the 1980s when I lived in a Times Square walk-up where many years earlier in the 1950s prominent burlesque agents actually had their offices. (I discovered this recently by looking at the agency ads in old burlesque trade magazines and seeing the address where I used to live.) So it is very possible that peelers like Tempest Storm or Jennie Lee, or models like Bettie Page, at one time or other crossed the threshold of the very same apartment I dwelled in thirty years later! No big deal, just strikes me as kinda cool.

I found the David and Bathsheba poster here, and The Bitches of Westwood boxcover here.

Femdom thrills in mainstream movies!

Over the years there have been a number of erotic mainstream movies touching on femdom–look up “Sadism and Masochism in Fiction” on Wikipedia for a long list. I admit that I have not seen them all, but in my opinion the greatest film of this type I have seen is Moonlight Whispers from 1999.

Called Sasayaki in Japanese (full title Gekko no sasayaki), it was based on a manga and told the story of two students, boyfriend and girlfriend. Problem is, the boyfriend is submissive and this greatly disturbs the girlfriend when she finds out. She didn’t know he was a hentai (pervert)!

I haven’t seen the movie in awhile, although when it was in the theaters I was so blown away that I went to see it twice on consecutive nights at New York’s Cinema Village, a tiny theater that was a perfect venue for an elegant but truly dirty movie (although softcore all the way). Then I saw it on VHS and DVD two or three times in succeeding years.

There are several clips on You Tube. In one, labeled Moonlight Whispers, at

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RZHqwQ4HnA

the girlfriend punishes the boyfriend by making him hide in a closet while she has sex with her boyfriend’s best friend. This clip shows the before and after, but doesn’t have the actual sex scene (which, again, was softcore and perfectly fine for being so…maybe even hotter for being so).

Re the clip I’ve linked to above, I’ve never seen a sequence in any other movie that captures so well the complicated feelings that femdom, especially the cuckolding scenario, can inspire in a male submissive…and also shows how the female can awaken to domineering feelings and latent sadism when she is disappointed in discovering that her man is not “normal.” Look at how she kicks him in the clip, calls him “hentai” and then plants her beautiful foot firmly upon his chest!

(On the same page where this clip can be found, there are other short Japanese clips ranging from commercials to blatant femdom eroticism. Check them out!)

In another clip on You Tube labeled Moonlight Whispers 2, at

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPUjMQDnqao&feature=relmfu

the girlfriend tells her boyfriend (whose wrists and ankles are bound) to clean her up after lovemaking with the other guy! “I’m sweaty.” Again, it’s done with a fair amount of subtlety, but is still incredibly hot.

That bottom shot of the DVD box is from that sequence.

It looks as if you can see this entire movie on You Tube under its original title Gekko no sasayaki, broken up into several parts. It really is worth owning, though, and definitely worth seeing: a rewarding film in many ways, capturing a whole spectrum of femdom scenarios as well as the emotions that go with them.

I also saw a 1961 movie on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) recently called Claudelle Inglish, which is about a poor Southern girl, daughter of sharecroppers, who takes revenge on the fiance who dumped her by becoming the town tramp.

The story is largely concerned with all her new suitors giving her presents–a constant stream of presents, in fact, about which she boasts just as constantly.

This reminds me of today’s thriving online “financial domination” scene, where men give “tributes” “presents” and “gifts” to dominatrixes, many of whom only interact with them online. (Although I’m not into financial domination–or “findom”–myself, I write a general column about femdom for a site that specializes in findom–Domme Dose, which you can find here. You can specifically find my columns, entitled “Notes of a Rebel Subbie,” here. Adults only.)

But back to Claudelle Inglish. Young actress Diane McBain was fantastic in this role. She starts out sweet when she’s engaged to her dreamboat (a very young Chad Everett)–but once he abandons her for another girl while in the army, she turns dominant and vengeful. As in the first Moonlight Whispers clip I linked to above, there’s a powerful moment where the young woman truly comes into her sense of dominant power over men, and we can see in her face her new awareness as a pathetic older man (Claude Akins) pleads for her friendship even as he offers her a present of red high heels! Amazing scene. Look for this movie on TCM again…because I’m sure they will rerun it. They have to, it’s a kinky gem! 🙂

Any newbie domme could learn a lot from seeing Diane McBain’s stunning portrayal of ultra-tease Claudelle Inglish!

SPOILER ALERT: Since Claudelle Inglish was made in 1961, the brazen greedy temptress does not come to a good end. Movies still preached an old-fashioned morality back then. But if Claudelle existed in today’s world, there’s no doubt she could make a mint as an online or “real-time” domme, draining her admirers for a flow of presents that would never end…

———

I hope you enjoyed this little bit of film history. I’m investigating a couple more rare movies with femdom themes, and I’ll be writing about them soon. Tickling Marilyn Monroe!

Things have been really busy, hence I haven’t been able to post for more than a week. With the summer comes a crunch of assignments in a bottleneck as various editors plan to go on vacation, so I juggle my work, hopping from piece to piece to get them done earlier than usual. My usual modus operandi as a freelance porn samurai is to work intensely Monday through Friday, and then chill on the weekend. In particular, on Saturday I like to stroll around New York as if I’m a tourist, for example walking down to the flea markets in Chelsea. Along the way I see some pleasant sights, like this liquor store advertisement for vodka, starring Carmen Electra…

I just love it when girls kick up one of their long shapely stems, pinup style!

I’ve also taken on more website writing, and will now be writing the copy for the DDF Productions sites House of Taboo.com, OnlyBlowjob.com, and HandsOnHardcore.com. That’s right, I will be immortalizing in prose everything from ultra-kink to obsessively oral to the whole sensual shebang. You can learn more about these sites and the other three I write for, HotLegsAndFeet.com, DDFBusty.com, and 1By-Day.com, by going to the newly-revamped DDFBlog.com here, written and edited by my talented colleague Ace, and also utilizing some of my headlines and copy. The blog will lead you to the sites. Adults only, please!

Meanwhile, after finishing my writing last Thursday evening, a really beautiful evening in NYC indeed, I went down to the  far west side in Chelsea for the opening of an exhibit of photos of Marilyn Monroe, taken by Lawrence Schiller from 1960 to 1962, right before her death. The show is entitled Lawrence Schiller: Marilyn & Me and runs through June 30, 2012 at the Steven Kasher Gallery at 521 West 23rd Street. You can learn more and see a lot of the pictures online here.

Accompanied by a glass of grapefruit-accented white wine served by a couple of pretty young ladies, I wandered about the show…

The picture on the right shows Marilyn and her birthday cake, presented during the production of Something’s Got To Give.

There were plenty of sparklers on her cake that night, but the production turned into a sad occasion when she was notoriously fired from the film.

Lawrence Schiller got to take photos of her now-legendary nude swim scene in the ultimately unfinished movie. These pictures are a mix of the sensual and the playful.

Schiller’s photojournalistic skills captured a vibrancy mixed with glamour that makes his photos some of the finest Marilyn images.

The pictures of Marilyn’s torso from behind are stunning, with the flowing lines of her back…the goddess Aphrodite herself could not have looked any better rising from the foam! But I couldn’t resist a little mischief of my own when Marilyn got close…

Kootchie-koo!!

Gee, I think Miss Monroe and I really shared a moment there! 🙂

If you’re around New York, don’t miss this terrific exhibit.
