Why do we write in the ways we write?

So what’s new and kinky to read this holiday season, friends and followers? My new novella Asian Ladies’ Male Desire Evaluation Team, starring Miss Diabolica Wong! Can’t you just feel her eyes penetrating you with cool inescapable strength and dominant power?

Here’s the description I put on the story’s Amazon Kindle page here:

“Her name was Miss Diabolica Wong. She was interviewing Bruce at the New York City headquarters of the Asian Ladies’ Male Desire Evaluation Team, or ALMDET, where it would be determined what role Bruce would play in the coming Female Led Future.

“Was he qualified to be a stud, or a slave?

“Bruce was willing to get naked, stroke himself, and do degrading things with food for the interview process, because Miss Wong turned him on so very much…and he really desired an adventure with another Asian woman since his Chinese-American girlfriend had broken up with him.

“Where will Bruce’s fetish for Asian ladies take him next? Would the cravings of his penis determine the ultimate destiny of his life?

“This 8300-word novella by the author of popular Asian-themed femdom erotica such as the Learning to Be Cruel series; Dominant Chinese Twins Enslave Whiny Man; Darva Chan: Cruelty Queen of the Piano; and She Made Me a Cuckold on Black Friday, includes penis size analysis; Clothed Female Naked Male interview scenes; masturbation encouragement; gentle but pointed criticism of Bruce’s personality flaws; and, overall, exciting female control of a submissive male! Take the plunge! Definitely for adults only.”

So, take the plunge! It’s available at Amazon stores worldwide.

*********

I’ve often wondered why I write these stories the way I do. The general formula, which certainly derives from my decades of writing fiction for men’s sex magazines, is of a fairly ordinary guy, his normal circumstances described, who meets a commanding woman who takes him to some bizarre places sexually. There are sex scenes (one or sometimes even more) leading to climax(es), then end of story. This is just the bare bones pattern, of course; I embroider it enough to make it feel fresh and real–at least, reviews of my work indicate that I do! ūüėČ

I’ve often wondered if my stories should have more “conflict.” Or to use the writing jargon, “more rising action, crisis, and falling action leading to a denouement.” But then several days ago I saw a tweet that, I believe, suddenly illuminated a possible inspiration for the structure I always seem to fall back on…

The tweet was about Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone, a show I have admired for over fifty years, and it had this quote:

“I don’t have to write a third act. The third act is: ‘That’s the way it is in the Twilight Zone’!'”

And this is really the way I write too, except my characters go into a “dominatrix zone” that upends who they are, what they knew, and what they then come to expect of themselves.

But isn’t there drama in your stories, you ask? Yes, there is rising action: act one, guy meets domme; and act two, crisis: even as he’s doing arousing things and having a good time, he wonders if it’s good for him. His ego and conscience suffer; he both revels in the kinky fun and feels embarrassment and shame. But then, once that crisis of heart, soul, and sac is resolved through a tremendous orgasm, a psychological epiphany, or a combination of both, and his submission is complete, the story quickly comes to an end. Yep, the guy is deep in the dominatrix zone. No act three needed.

Unlike in The Twilight Zone, the biggest fantasy in my femdom erotica is not something supernatural or science-fictional–except for my overtly fantastical tales like The Dominatrix Who Couldn’t Die or Femdom New York 2399 A.D. Rather, the fantasies I write about are sexual and, if there’s a moral or message, it’s usually something about accepting one’s erotic destiny and feelings. The endings are deterministic, meaning “this is your fate, pallie.” Yes, fate is what I seem to believe in as I write, saying to my characters, to myself, and to my readers, “You are sexually serving women because you destined to; this is the way things are because you have entered and fully belong in the dominatrix zone.”

I sometimes get flustered that my stories seem to often end this way, with no dramatic “change”–but then I have to remind myself that the change has already taken place and is a fact. My male characters go from the sexually vanilla world, more often than not, and become the sexual slaves of dominant women. And sometimes more than sexual slaves; domestic ones, too. And it seems to me now that in all this erotica, with its strangeness of incident or fetish or dialogue, there is much that is structurally similar to The Twilight Zone. Also, often as in TZ,¬† there seems to be no way out from the weirdness for my male protagonists. And probably not for the women they meet either, either, although they do have the upper hand on their situations in ways the men don’t.

So what does this all mean, Irv, you ask? Simply that now I understand my own writing better, with its quirks and structural decisions–decisions that I couldn’t seem to change but didn’t understand why. But now I do understand, thanks to that tweet with the Serling quote from @NightGallery’s Twitter feed.

So why do you write the way you write? Asking ourselves these questions can be fun and illuminating and even a bit sobering…I think the literary self-analysis I did above is one reason why I so prize my psychological suspense novel Fate of a Stripper, found here, which goes beyond this “formula” into much deeper territory. I think I did a good job with it, proving to myself that I could indeed fulfill one of my ambitions, which was always to explore literary regions beyond the erotica and dominatrix zones.

Would you lick the dirty bottom of a domme’s shoe?

It’s hard to believe I wrote this four years ago…a lot of it in a spiral notebook sitting outdoors at Lincoln Center and drinking coffee.

I thought about this story for a couple of years, had two false starts, and then finally it fell into place. I think in some ways it’s one of my most personal tales, even though it is a total piece of fiction, completely fabricated from out of my twisted mind.

The cover was posed by a professional model in a stock photo I purchased, yet over the years she has come to seem to me like the very embodiment of Darva Chan.

I mostly write on the computer, but I like to write by hand as well.

I’ve thought about doing a sequel but, although I have a cover picked out, I never seem to get around to it. Maybe I said all I had to say about Darva and her virtuoso methods of pain and piano in this novella. I’m not big on sequels anyway. I only wrote a sequel to LEARNING TO BE CRUEL because my British artist colleague Sardax did a painting of its domina character, Miss Meirong, that suggested a further direction for the story. Yet, maybe someday, I’ll see what Darva has been up to these last few years…

In any case, I love classical music as much as femdom and in DARVA CHAN I got to merge them both. And this cover is one of my favorites.

The story also addresses the question of whether her slave, otherwise devoted, will lick the dirty bottoms of her shoes. He is reluctant because it doesn’t seem too sanitary to him…well, Darva and her minion Jason come to a compromise on this. Read it and see what you think. Be sure to listen to Prokofiev’s 7th piano sonata as you do…or, as Darva calls it, “The Femdom Sonata”!¬† You can get the ebook here. And you can listen to the fabulous virtuoso Yuja Wang play the last movement of the sonata here. Savor the music and look at the Darva cover, letting yourself sink into the intense world of her eyes. See where the combination of image and music take you!

Femdom seduction during the American Revolution!

Eighteenth century ladies have always been icons of erotica to me.

Self-portrait of 18th century artist Marie-Gabrielle Capet

My parents took me to see the blockbuster historical comedy Tom Jones when I was twelve in ’63 or ’64. That might’ve started this fetish for me, I guess! But it’s not a major fetish, I want to emphasize; just pleasant daydreams of decorous ladies or feisty wenches in frilly finery…

I had an adolescent yen for the movie’s “bad girl” Diane Cilento and “nice girl” Susannah York

Or maybe when I was eight years old I saw some foxy doxy on an episode of The Swamp Fox, the 1959 Disney tv series starring the pre-comedic Leslie Nielsen as the Revolutionary War Hero Francis Marion. I remember I had a 45 rpm yellow vinyl record of the theme song which is here on YouTube, a ditty which I just heard for the first time in maybe 58 years while writing this post! ūüėČ

Way back before The Naked Gun series, Leslie Nielsen was a standard leading man type

Currently I’m in a state of “withdrawal” from a fantastic novel I picked up around Christmas that took three months to read. It was Eagle in the Sky by F. Van Wyck Mason, a story of the last year of the American Revolution from the viewpoint of three young doctors. Reading this skillfully written historical fiction was like taking a trip into 1780-1781. It was 500 pages long of small type, and I read slowly both to savor the story and to study the writer’s techniques and take notes. When I was done the other night, I really felt a pang of withdrawal, like: “You mean, there’s no more?”

The aged dust jacket is a bit tattered, but I kind of liked that…had a certain charm like that of beautiful ruins…

Among the many entertaining, informative, and enlightening aspects of the book, besides its depiction of 18th century medical methods, sea and land battles, morals and etiquette, clothing, and living quarters, were the romantic entanglements of its characters. And to my delight, one of the doctors gets entangled with a femme fatale wealthy young widow named Emma who is clearly out to entrance him and nab him for her own:

She totally manipulates Lucius into doing exactly what she wants, against his usual survival instincts which are the result of his  rough, low-born upbringing.

Now, finding femdom images and writing on the Internet or especially Twitter these days is of course commonplace, but finding the same kind of “hypnodomme” concepts in the context of a novel published in 1948 about the War of Independence is especially pleasurable! Did you note in the excerpt above how she entrances him with her eyes? And the vivid description of her hair, lips, and clothing is quite sensual.

Mason is unjustly forgotten today, but he had an amazing life and the three novels of his I’ve read were all exciting combinations of history, romance, and action. His characters tended to be stereotypes in the central casting mold (for example, when I read Eagle in the Sky I imagined young versions of Randolph Scott, Henry Fonda, and Zachary Scott as the three male protagonists) but nonetheless Mason’s people come vividly and intimately to life through their passions and adventures. Here are his two other books I read:

Both were set in the ancient world, and the sexy Tom Dunn covers well portray what’s actually inside the stories

When I was reading Eagle in the Sky I kept picturing who might play the female characters in a film of the 1940s. And Linda Darnell, a superb cinema temptress in that era, would have been perfect as Emma. Here she is in the 17th century drama Forever Amber.

One of the greatest femmes fatale of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

In my own writing, I’ve only done a handful of historical stories, one being my ebook The Sins of Dr. Jekyll (available here on Amazon), but it’s something I’d like to do again, so that’s why I read these books carefully to pick up tips from a master about how to evoke bygone eras. And when I read F. Van Wyck Mason I feel like I’m in a different century. He puts you in the scene but doesn’t explain all the historical references about the physical world or the culture–which makes a reader feel either like a contemporary of the characters, one who is assumed to understand all the details of life in those days; or like a time traveler gazing in mute wonder at how things were so different in the past…not necessarily understanding all the references and customs, but happy to observe and go along for the ride.

So do check out F. Van Wyck Mason’s books if you enjoy historical fiction!

I will have to admit my version of Victorian London owes more to Hammer Films than any in-depth historical research! ūüėČ

Writing for Leg Show and illustrated by Sardax…

My friend and colleague, the great femdom artist Sardax, recently wrote¬†a blog post about doing art¬†for editor Dian Hanson’s¬†Leg Show magazine back in the 1990s and early 2000s and creating some illustrations for my short stories there, among the many authors whose work he brought to visual life. You can read his post here.

I had been writing femdom fiction for other magazines like Leg Action for a few years before I started submitting stories to Leg Show, but once I began publishing in¬†Dian’s¬†publication, it became my favorite femdom venue. Two reasons for this are¬†that there were fewer censorship restrictions on the subject matter–the strictness of restrictions varied from publisher to publisher–and Dian was also open to fiction that didn’t only¬†emphasize eroticism but also the exploration of the psychological aspects of foot and leg fetishism and female dominance. Since my stories ranged from those designed mostly for stimulation to some very intense and dark tales about the ambivalence of submissive males toward their destiny to¬†kneel before powerful women, Leg Show was a perfect showcase for my work.

One of the stories I wrote,¬†designed primarily¬†for arousal than for introspection, was “Enter the Governess,” about a young woman sexually in charge of a handyman at the New York City rooming house where she lives. Here you see the opening pages with Sardax’s illustration. This was in the December 1999 issue.

The young heroine teases the handyman with the encouragement of her landlady.

The young heroine teases the handyman with the encouragement of her landlady.

There were a number of other good illustrators who worked for Dian, but Sardax was always my favorite. The faces of his ladies¬†especially¬†reflect the teasing and often playfully cruel allure of the fictional dommes I write about…

She knows he loves to ache for her tantalizing skills!

In this detail we see she understands how much he loves to ache under her tantalizing power!

…and there was always a smile on my face when I got¬†my complimentary writer’s copy of a new issue of Leg Show in the mail and saw that Sardax had illustrated my latest opus.

Check out his official website The Femdom Art of Sardax here and look for info especially about¬†his illustrated version of Venus in Furs, which in his pictures and translation Sardax¬†captures the atmosphere and essence of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s groundbreaking femdom novel. The rest of us femdom writers only stand in the shadow of Sacher-Masoch’s masterpiece, an essential read for any lover of erotica, much less any submissive male or dominant woman!

Femdom pervades modern culture!

Being a writer of erotic fiction, with a specialty in femdom stories, I am very aware of femdommy currents in other avenues of media and culture. The other morning while eating my breakfast and reading the newspaper, I noticed this fashion ad in the New York Post:

Her expression shoots daggers!

Her expression shoots daggers!

I was struck by how mean the model’s expression looked as she posed in her duds. “What are these clothes supposed to be,” I thought, “an appropriate ensemble for ballbusting a rebellious male?”

Several weeks earlier, at the beginning of this summer which has passed oh-too-quickly, I encountered this¬†pose on the cover of the New York Post’s “Hot Issue” summer special:

It's all right to look, but all I can do is ache & put more cream cheese on my bagel.

It’s all right to look, but all I can do is ache & put more cream cheese on my bagel.

So I guess you might say I bumped into¬†a little “tease and denial,” a popular form of femdom roleplay, while eating my salt bagel (which I¬†like with plenty of salt).

Yes, femdom is everywhere…even when I go outside to enjoy the sunshine, or walk around near Times Square, I see women eager and ready to rule…

This ad was all over Manhattan earlier in the summer.

This ad was all over Manhattan earlier in the summer.

I think it’s funny how in the above ad, the coincidental placement of the leggy model’s hand against the side panel¬†of the bus makes it almost look as if she has a riding crop!

I guess you might say I have femdom on the brain…well, not all the time, because I also have to be concerned with such mundane stuff as making a living, learning to be a better writer (always), reading vintage paperbacks, and checking out pretty women on the street…

In any case, if you want to learn more about the femdom universe from the perspective of one veteran traveler of its trails, check out my Kindle ebooks!

His spanking dreams come true…and more!

It’s been several months since I last published a new story on Kindle, but I just put one up this evening which should be available tomorrow, Wednesday 4/17/13, on all the Amazon sites. Just click on the sidebar where it says “My ebooks” and you’ll see all my stories.

The new opus is called DOMINANT CHINESE TWINS ENSLAVE WHINY MAN, and it’s a mix of the erotic and the humorous that characterizes some of my femdom tales. As usual I designed the cover myself in the sleazy crude style of the fetish booklets that used to be sold in the Times Square adult bookstores in the days before rampant gentrification and civic improvement.

Would you like to be in the clutches of these two dolls?

Would you like to be in the clutches of these two dolls?

I wish I could draw better, but this crazy cover definitely captures the bizarre, horny, and unpredictable atmosphere of my story, which has everything from tittie bars to foot worship to relentless spanking to the fervent appreciation of the feminine fanny. Leo, an unemployed middle-aged man, meets Orchid, a young Chinese-American stripper, and she takes him home to her apartment. (Okay, so my hero is yet another lucky subbie! Well, Zane Grey wrote about cowboys a lot.) Leo thinks (or hopes) he’s going to have a session of foot worship with Orchid, but he’s in for a big surprise when he meets her sister Lily…a hard-working research scientist with some kinks of her own…

I’ve priced the story at 99¬Ę so you’re just a click away from instant erotica pleasure! It’s formatted for everything from iPads to Kindles to iPhones and of course for the free Kindle computer apps.

Re the art work, this cover is a little different than my previous ones. The earlier ones are a little more sedate, but this time I used some oil pastel crayons and an ordinary black pen and I started fooling around with the picture. I was actually going to throw it away just before I took out the crayons, but then it started coming to life for me and, as I said, capturing the atmosphere of the story. Maybe you don’t agree and think I should have thrown it out?

When I’m under a lot of stress I find that drawing is a nice emotional release. There’s something cathartic about running thick swatches of pastel across a page, pure color.

As I’ve said elsewhere on various occasions, I’m very much an aficionado of visual art, and I envy artists their immediate impact on the spectator, especially in these days when people seem to read less and less. But YOU don’t read less and less, and I hope you’ll check out DOMINANT CHINESE TWINS ENSLAVE WHINY MAN!¬†

UPDATE: The book is now up on Amazon US & India here! And look for it at Amazon UK, Amazon Germany, Amazon France, Amazon Spain, Amazon Italy, Amazon Japan, Amazon Brazil, and Amazon Canada too!
